Hi all!
It is now monday and I just realised that it's been 3 full weeks since I left Québec. Can't believe how fast time is flying!! Transition is now almost over and our team is finally complete!! Before last Saturday, we were still missing 2 persons on the team. We were basically 4 girls + David (MCP). Now that Anthony and Abdo arrived in Paris, we have a better equilibrium lol! It's really cool cause we can now feel the team spirit and get to know the team with whom we're gonna work, live, eat, party.. etc for a whole year!! Plus, we can finally start taking some decisions regarding our term! ahhhh!! enfin!!! lol
As it wasn't really clear into my last post, I'm gonna describe what is exactly my role in the national team of AIESEC France.
De façon générale, my role is LC Development and Alumni. For Canadian AIESECer, it's the equivalent of RVP + Alumnis. More specifically, I will be responsible of :
- developing the LC Development framework (with the other members part of the LC Development taskforce - we are 4 : David, Coralie, Anthony and myself).
- going in local committees and help the LC by providing advices, training, coaching, support... For aiesecers, it's basically what we call LC visits. Pour les autres, c'est un peu l'équivalent d'un conseilller dans une boîte de service conseil, sauf que je suis spécialisée dans les processus AIESEC.
- create a cooperation culture between LCs, un peu comme au Québec!! Sharing Da LUV!! ;)
- promote, find, talk, use and abuse of alumnis! lol I'm gonna be working with Abdo on this, but since he's not a Freach speaker, I'll be mainly doing the talking part. ;)
We just decided today the LCs allocation. At the opposite of @Canada, where LCs used to be allocated in a geographic way (Québec, Ontario, West Atlantic), in France, we allocate LCs by choosing who is the team is most suitable, meaning the person who can have the biggest impact on the LC reality.
There is about 15 LCs in France, and I will be the coach of 5 of them : INT (Evry), Sciences Po (Paris), Toulouse, Bordeaux and Reims. As you can see, most of my LCs are now in Paris, meaning that I will pass most of my time on the road! As an international, this is really cool, but at the same time, I know that it is gonna be exhausting! Always being out of your home, not being really in control of your schedule, when you will sleep, where you will eat... etc. I'm quite aware that this is gonna be challenging spychologically, but I'm more than ready to do it!! :D
Otherwise, this weekend, I went with some aiesecers to La Fête de la Musique. For those who never heard about this event before, it is an annual French event, always happening during the longest day of the year, where music is everywhere in Paris. Wherever you go, there's either a big show going on, or some random musicians playing in the streets. Kinda nice, eh!? ;) We first went to Bastille where a huge show was happening. But there were sooooo many people there that we decided to go else where. We then went to Trocadéro (tour Eiffel). You can't imagine who cool it was to celebrate just in front of the Eiffel Tower!! It is soooo damn pretty that you can just stand there of hours and admire!! :D
On Sunday, after spending the afternoon walking around Île St-Louis, Cathédrale Notre-Dame, Panthéon, Jardin du Luxembourg, we went to David's place to watch the football game : Spain against Italy. Even if France lost the Euro Cup, people are still watching closely the games. Even if I'm far from being a big fan of football, (hockey is sooooo much better!! can't believe I've missed the finals...) I getting used to it somehow!
We are now monday, and transition is continuing, but we are now less than a week away from the official beginning of our mandate!!!! so it's starting to be really exiting!!!!! :D :D :D
Plus we are now the 23, la veille de la ST-JEAN BATISTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't figure yet what I will do, but I'll for sure celebrate it!!! I had a call from JF (HEC) today who was passing by Paris. We unfortunately didn't manage to see each other, but he informed me there was a Quebec Bar in the 5th where they celebrate ST-JEAN!! Plus, there is Mathieu - couramment appelé LaBête UQAM - who will be in Paris!!! As for now, my plan is to recruit as much people as possible either today or tomorrow to celebrate le 400e en grand!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D Demain, je compte entre autre me promener toute la journée avec mon drapeau québécois!!! On va surement me regarder croche dans les rues, mais c'est pas grave!! QUÉBÉCOISE JUSQU'AU BOUT!!! lol
The only thing that is screwing my ST-JEAN plans is that we have a dinner with alumnis tomorrow... And it's not any kind of alumni, it's one of the founder of AIESEC : Jean Choplin (PAI 50/51)!! Being one of the responsible of the Alumni, plus... well, it's JEAN CHOPLIN, I can't really miss this dinner!!
Anyways, we'll see what will happen...
Pour ceux qui seront sur les plaines le 23, ayez une petite pensée pour moi et buvez 1,2 ou 5 (ou 10+ pour PEC et Alex) bières pour ceux qui sont pris de l'autre côté de l'océan!! Sérieusement, chuis vraiment triste de manquer ça, en plus que c'est le 400e!!!

AIESEC 101
Ma vie tournant surtout autour de l'AIESEC ces jours-ci, je crois qu'il devient plus que pertinent de présenter le tome 1 de "L'AIESEC for dummies" ;P
Tout d'abord, l'AIESEC, de kessé????
Maintenant voyons un peu la structure de l'organisation. L'AIESEC étant présente dans plus de 100 pays, une structure organisationnelle est nécessaire. Premièrement, l'AIESEC commence au niveau local (LC = local committee). On parle alors des bureaux dans les universités tels que UdeS, McGill, HEC, ... Au niveau local, on s'occupe plutôt du côté opérationnel de l'AIESEC, c'est à dire la gestion du programme de stage (sélectionner et envoyer des étudiants à l'étranger, rencontrer des entreprises pour qu'elles prennent des stagiaires de l'international), fundraising, organisation d'événements en tout genre... On y retrouve aussi une équipe, le EB (Executive Board - Comité Exécutif) qui s'occupe davantage du côté stratégique du LC, i.e. décider des priorités dans les activités, choisir les objectifs à atteindre et les stratégies pour y parvenir, etc.
Sur un EB, on retrouve normalement 5-6 personnes :
LCP - Local Committee President : président, leader de l'équipe
VP TM - Vice président Talent Management : VP RH en quelques sorte : voit au recrutement, intégration des membres...
VP ER - External Relation : VP responsable des relations externes = partenariats, communication externe, image, branding...
VP ICX - Incoming Exchange : VP responsable des échanges entrants = rencontrer les entreprises que veulent recevoir un stagiaire (vente), sélection du stagiaire, accueil, intégration du stagiaire, suivi avec l'entreprise...
VP OGX - Outgoing Exchange : VP responsable des échange sortants = sélection des stagiaires qui vont partir en stage à l'étranger, matching avec une entreprise étrangère via le réseau AIESEC, préparation au choc culturel...
VP F - Finance : voit à la comptabilité et à la gestion des fonds du LC
Ensuite, on retrouve le niveau national, tel que AIESEC Canada, AIESEC France, ... On appelle cette entité MC (Member Committee). Sur le MC, on retrouve une équipe d'AIESECers qui travaillent (donc sont payés) pour l'AIESEC à plein temps. Au niveau national, on a une approche davantage stratégique qu'opérationnelle. L'objectif du MC est d'être un catalyseur pour les activités du LC, ainsi que d'assurer une certaine cohérence entre les différents pays AIESEC dans le monde.
Sur le MC, on peut retrouver différents postes en fonction des besoins du pays. À la base, on retrouve une structure semblable à celle des LCs : VPX (échange) , VPF, VP ER, et quelques autres :
MCP - Member Committee president : Président du MC
MCVP LCD - Local Committee Development : VP sur le MC responsable de développer les activités des LCs. Il est le principal lien entre les LC et le MC. Il offre entre autre de la formation, des contacts, de l'expérience/conseils, aux LCs.
Ensuite, au dessus des comités nationaux (MC), on retrouve AIESEC international (AI). AI voit à assurer la cohésion entre les différents pays, et voit à implanter une stratégie de croissance au niveau global.
AI se compose d'un EB de base, mais aussi de sub-division que l'on appelle GN (growth network - régions).
Il y a 6 GN dans l'AIESEC :
WENA - Western Europe and North America
IBERO America : mostly the spanish speaker network
AFRICA
CEE - Central Eastern Europe
MENA - Middle Europe and North Africa
AP - Asia Pacific

My first MC week!
For my English friends, I'm gonna try to write this one in English! :) So to briefly summarize my last message, I arrived in Paris on Sunday morning, Paris time. David, MCPe @Fr welcomed me at the airport, and drive me to the MC Flat (fortunately he had a car so I didn't had to travel thought the métro de Paris with all my luggage!! Plus it was 3am for me at the time... )
The MC flat is what we would consider as a really small appartment in Canada! REALLY!! there's 2 rooms, a kitchen and a washroom... and we are 4 in the appartment, so we are sharing rooms! Plus, during transition, you can easily double the number of persons per room! It can be kinda challenging when one of your roomate is snooring... at lot! lol
I then visited a bit Paris with Miki, MCVP LC Development current, in the afternoon, and once again with Rita, current MCVPX (from Ontario) and her sister, on monday.
Tuesday was my first day in the MC office. The only thing that I didn't expected was that I was the first and only one of the incoming team (other that David -MCPe) in Paris! By chance, the current team is really cool!

My first week as MCe was exhausting (obviously, it,s aiesec lol)!! First, I have soooo much to learn that my brain is always working! Second, we are so many living in the MC flat, and all of them being aiesecers, I'm always going to bed really late, and waking up really early! I would say that I slept an average of 6-7 hours a night so far... with the jet lag effect, I can certify that this is far from being enough!!!
Because I was the only elect MC member, tuesday was relax. I worked on my transition, but more informaly. I finished the day by going to the interns night ;)
On Wednesday, I went to my first LC visit in Paris at ESCP (a Grande École). It was my first meetint with non-MC aiesec france members, so I helped me a lot to understand @France reality.
Thursday, I had my first official Transition Day! Therefore, it was the first time that I was finally meeting my MC team (the elects)!!! (well at least most of them because the 2 int'l didn't arrived in France yet) Still I was pretty interesting to spend some time finally with the team that I will be stuck with for the next year! lol :P By chance, I like all of them!! :D Ils se marrent tous de mon accent mais bon ... lol Ce qui a vraiment été nice, c'est qu'à la fin de la journée, une gang de la incoming et outgoing team sont allés à Montmartre (vous savez ma place préféré en France) pour chiller et jouer de la guit! Yes I played guitar on the step of Sacré Coeur in Montmartre!! :D Somehow, a dream coming true!! lol Plus, when we left, a random woman told me I had a nice voice ;) I was like, "OMG I have a fanclub!! where's my facebook group!!??" hahah just kidding (not about the compliment, but about the facebook group lol). Still, it made my day!
On Friday morning, I left for Reims with Miki for a LC visit. Reims is an LC that started less that a year ago, and is still considered as an extention. During the weekend, we did SWOT analysis, recrument planning for Septembre, trainings on aiesec processes (a LOT!), etc. (C'est bien pcq ca m'a permis de bien comprendre les différences entre les processus d'AIESEC France et du Canada. En fait, ce n,est pas tant différent en terme de processus, mais je me rends compte que le Canada est beaucoup plus fort que ce qu'on pense! La culture et la connaissance de l'AIESEC ici est vraiment moindre que ce que l'on retrouve normalement au Canada... là est tout le défi à relevé! )
I think that I now understand more the challenges that RVPs were facing... You know, how they can look exhausted even if they are saying the opposite and working all the time! Doing a LC visit when you are already tired is kind of hard, principalement sur ton psychologique! It's crazy how much coaching is sucking your energy!! And than, even if you are really tired, you still need to keep your energy up to get the job done. Sérieusement, ca prend de la discipline mentale pour rester motivé!!
Mais ma visite à Reims a malgré tout été vraiment vraiment plaisante! Vous me connaissez, j'aime beaucoup trop rencontrer du nouveau monde!! Alors rencontrer les membres, plus me promener dans la très jolie ville de Reims, sans oublier notre petit party de vendredi où on s'est retrouvé à boire du whisky chez Constance (une aiesecer) tout en grattant une guitare, s'aligne complètement dans mes intérêts!! lol
I'm right now still in Reims, it's almost 2am and I'm blogging instead of sleeping... BRAVO! and I'm then complaining that I am tired lol We are having a OGX training at 11am tomorrow, plus two "review board interview" in the afternoon. Then I'll be back in Paris to get a little bit of rest before the week start again! wow, je sais pas trop combien de temps mon corps va supporter la fatigue! ;P
Monday, I'm supposed to meet some managers of Delphi (leading global supplier of mobile electronics and transportation systems and important partner of @France) with Alex (current MCVP Business Development), and I'm supppose to take Aylin at the airpoit on wednesday (MCVP ICXe from Turkey!! Yé un nouveau membre dans l'équipe!!)
ps : J'essaie peu à peu de m'intégrer à la culture francaise! Pour ce faire, je me suis convaincue d'intégrer l'accent francais... Je dis donc des mots comme marrant, putain, ouf, chelou... et je prononce le "t" de "but", "août" et "yaourt" lol J'ai découvert que c'était vraiment beaucoup plus simple de faire ca comme ca vu que je me fais vraiment mieux comprendre!! On m'a même dit que je n'avais plus du tout d'accès! lol Mais ce qui me trahit c,est bien évidemment mes expressions typiquement québécoises tel que "à tantôt", "faut qu'il y aille plus de jus" et " chuis tanné". Mais bon, avec le temps, je vais commencer à m'adapter! Je commencer même à apprendre le verlang et c'est vraiement bizarre comme truc, et pas du tout logique... Mais ne vous inquiétez pas, je n'en perds par moins ma culture québécoise!! Mon dernier projet est d,ailleurs d'intégrer la "loi du shutgun" et du buffalo dans les loi du MC team! et qui sais, j'arriverais pê à faire vivre la légende de Val d'Or en France!! lol

On m'a même dit que je n'avais plus du tout d'accès! lol Mais ce qui me trahit c,est bien évidemment mes expressions typiquement québécoises tel que "à tantôt", "faut qu'il y aille plus de jus" et " chuis tanné". Mais bon, avec le temps, je vais commencer à m'adapter! Je commencer même à apprendre le verlang et c'est vraiement bizarre comme truc, et pas du tout logique... Mais ne vous inquiétez pas, je n'en perds par moins ma culture québécoise!! Mon dernier projet est d,ailleurs d'intégrer la "loi du shutgun" et du buffalo dans les loi du MC team! et qui sais, j'arriverais pê à faire vivre la légende de Val d'Or en France!! lol
